Redmi Note 12 series arrives in Europe, here are the prices

Four Redmi Note 12 models are expanding to the European market – here is a look at which models made the trip and how much they cost. Starting from the top, we have the Redmi Note 12 Pro+, Note 12 Pro and Note 12, plus a brand new 4G-only model also named Redmi Note 12. We’ll cover the 4G model in full detail in a separate article.

The Redmi Note 12 Pro+ and its 200MP camera will start at €500 for a unit with 8GB of RAM and 256GB storage. This model comes with a 120W charger and a relatively big 5,000mAh battery. The Discovery edition, the one with an even faster 210W charger (and smaller 4,300mAh battery) will not be joining it (not that we expected it to).

The Redmi Note 12 Pro is 20% cheaper at €400, though that is with only 6GB of RAM and 128GB storage. Also, compared to the plus model, this one has a 50MP main camera (with a slightly smaller sensor, but it still has OIS) and the 5,000mAh battery charges at 67W. What kind of difference does that make? The time to full goes from 19 minutes to 46 minutes.

The vanilla Redmi Note 12 – note that this is the 5G one, not the new 4G model – will start another €100 down and a 4/128GB unit will cost you €300. It’s also important to note that this isn’t the Note 12 from China but an improved version – it has Gorilla Glass 3, a microSD slot and an 8MP ultra wide camera, things that the Chinese model lacks.

For completeness’ sake, the Redmi Note 12 4G will start at €200, but again we cover that one in more details in a separate post.

To put things in perspective, the Redmi Note 11 Pro (4G, Helio G96) started at €330 for a 6/128GB unit, the 5G version (Snapdragon 695) was €370. Both models featured 108MP cameras (no OIS) and 5,000mAh batteries with 67W charging.

One last thing – the Redmi Note 12 Pro Speed variant isn’t coming to Europe either.

Redmi Note 12S and Redmi Note 12 Pro 4G make sneaky official debut in Europe

Only a few hours ago we announced the completed rollout of the new Redmi Note 12 series in Europe, but it turns out there was more to the story. At a regional launch event in Athens, Greece, Xiaomi unveiled two additional devices, aside from the Redmi Note 12 Pro, Redmi Note 12, and Redmi Note 12 4G that we've already talked about. Both of these were leaked in March.

First, let's discuss the Redmi Note 12 Pro 4G. This model was announced a couple of days ago in Indonesia, and it's now making its way to Europe - at least some Southern and Eastern parts of Europe for now, but it will likely get a wider release at some later point.

It comes with the very old at this point Snapdragon 732G chipset and a 108MP main camera. It's got a 5,000 mAh battery with 67W fast charging support, a 120Hz AMOLED screen, a 3.5mm headphone jack, support for Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision, and 4K video recording.

The other specs are a mystery right now, but we do know that it will be sold in Europe for €329.

Next up, we have official debut of the Redmi Note 12S, which boasts a 6.43-inch 90Hz screen, which is most likely LCD and a triple rear camera system with a 108MP main shooter.

This one is powered by the MediaTek Helio G96 SoC and sports an IR blaster, a fingerprint sensor, IP53 dust and water resistance certification, dual speakers, expandable storage, and a 5,000 mAh battery with 33W charging support.

This one will be offered in Onyx Black, Ice Blue, and Pearl Green for €289. Interestingly, last month the FCC certified a Redmi Note 12S that has a different camera island design, which makes the so far incredibly confusing Redmi Note 12 lineup even more so.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 series debuts, Pro+ gets 200 MP camera

The Redmi Note line is now in its 12th iteration and it arrives in four tiers – a vanilla 12, a 12 Pro, a 12 Pro+ and the 12 Explorer Edition. We’ll cover the first three phones here while the Explorer Edition and its 210W charging will be covered in a separate post on our newsfeed. All three Pro models are equipped with MediaTek’s Dimensity 1080 chipset while the Redmi Note 12 5G gets Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 SoC instead.

Redmi Note 12 Pro+ and 12 Pro

The Redmi Note 12 Pro and Redmi Note 12 Pro+ models share a nearly identical specs sheet with 6.67-inch OLED displays of FHD+ resolution and 120Hz refresh rates. Both phones are equipped with the Dimensity 1080 chipset and up to 12GB RAM and 256GB storage which is not expandable.

The Pro+ has an advantage in the camera department – it’s the first Redmi phone with a 200MP camera utilizing Samsung's ISCOELL HPX sensor. This is a 1/1.4-inch sensor with 16-to-1 pixel binning and QPD autofocus. You can take 12.5MP resolution photos in the default mode with a 2.24μm pitch, 50MP shots with 1.12μm pixels and even full 200MP images with 0.56μm pixels. The big sensor is also capable of staggered HDR, 14-bit color depth as well as 8K video recording at 30fps and 4K at 120 fps. Sadly, the Dimensity 1080 chipset has capped its performance to 4K video recording only.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Explorer sets a new benchmark for fast charging - 210W

When the USB-IF announced plans for adding a Power Delivery profile for 240W charging we thought it was something for the future. The standard way of doing things may indeed be something for the future, but today brings us almost at that point with the new Redmi Note 12 Explorer.

This phone is based on the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ (which also debuts today), but ups the charging speed from 120W to 210W. The battery capacity does go down – from 5,000mAh to 4,300mAh – as Xiaomi had to build a battery to very exacting requirements.

gsmarena_003.jpg

With that in mind, a complete 0-100% charge with the Explorer takes only 9 minutes. By the 5 minute mark the phone is already at 66%. For comparison, the regular Redmi Note 12 Pro+ needs 19 minutes for a full charge (keep in mind that it is filling a battery that is 16% larger).

By the way, this is proprietary Xiaomi tech rather than Power Delivery. The upcoming USB-PD standard prescribes 50V at 5A (with some safety margin) for 240W. Xiaomi instead keeps the voltage low – at 20V, which is pretty common these days – and splits the electricity into three channels of 20V at 3.5A each (so 70W, but each channel is designed to handle up to 100W to ensure stable, safe operation).

Also, the charger that pushes out those impressive 210W is surprisingly small thanks to the power of GaN technology – it measures 67.3 x 64.3 x 30mm. Unlike some other super fast chargers, this one promises to output its full 210W even in countries with 110V electrical grid. The supplied 1m (3.3ft) cable has an E-mark chip to make sure it is used safely only with supported chargers (the charger will refuse to do 210W without the E-mark). For other devices the charger can output a standard 65W using USB-PD.

Now that you have heard all about the amazing charger and battery, all there is left to talk about is the price of the Redmi Note 12 Explorer (it really is identical to the 12 Pro+ in all other respects).

The Explorer will be available from October 31 at a price of CNY 2,400 for an 8/256GB unit (pre-orders are opening today). That’s barely above the price of a Pro+ with the same memory, CNY 2,200. If you’re curious, CNY 2,400 converts to $330/€330, but we’re not sure if the Explorer will be available outside of China.

A quick summary of the Redmi Note 12 Pro+/12 Explorer specs. They pack a 200MP main camera (1/1.4” ISOCELL HPX sensor, f/1.7 lens with OIS), which is paired with an 8MP ultra wide camera (119°) and a 2MP macro cam. The phones are powered by the Dimensity 1080 (a revamped 920) and have 6.67” 120Hz OLED displays (10-bit panels, Dolby Vision support).

Xiaomi is announcing the Redmi Note 12 series this month

Xiaomi announced at least 18 different Redmi Note 11 smartphones in the past year and the company is finally ready to move on. An announcement on Weibo revealed the Redmi Note 12 series will be launched this month.

According to the post, there will be “two major technologies”, one of them being “first in the world”.

Xiaomi is launching Redmi Note 12 series this month

There is no information on what names will be the first devices, but there are reports about three upcoming phones - Redmi Note 12, Redmi Note 12 Pro, and Redmi Note 12 Pro+ that were respectively certified with 67W, 120W, and 210W fast charging.

Rumors are pointing to the Note 12 Pro phones being powered by the latest Mediatek chipset, the Dimensity 1080 which was announced earlier this month as an improvement over the Dimensity 920. One of the biggest updates on the SoC that we are likely to see in the Redmi phones is the capability for a 200 MP camera.
